Come Say Hello

I love meeting the people who bring dbfour Design into their homes — and there's no substitute for seeing the fabric, feeling the hand of a piece, and talking colour and craft in person. If you can, come find me at a show.

Ask the Expert

Got a sewing, fabric, or care question? Reader questions are answered right here — pulled from messages sent through this page and from conversations at my events. If you've ever wondered how to keep linen looking its best, how to match colour and pattern with confidence, or what makes one cotton different from another, this is the place.

Submit Your Question

Send me your sewing, fabric, or care question using the form above and mark it “Ask the Expert.” I will feature a selection of questions and answers here — and in my monthly subscriber email.

This Month's Top Question

Q: I never feel confident mixing colours and patterns on my table. Where do I even start?

Start with one anchor colour, something you already love and build out from there with two supporting tones, one lighter and one deeper. Don't be afraid of contrast; a little tension between colours is what makes a table feel curated instead of matchy. And remember texture counts as much as colour: a nubby linen runner next to a smooth cotton napkin is doing just as much visual work as any print.
